The objects of french Suzy Lelièvre’s often seem to have a life of their own. In her series of distorted tables, she challenges the conventional idea of furniture, not accepting the shape expected of them. They follow a wholly different rationale, one that subverts the state of their very substance.

The wood turns elastic and pliable, almost sensuous. Seemingly simple, but actually a true technical feat. Lelièvre likes to tell stories, the kind where standardized objects wander off the beaten track, escape the industrial production chain and cast off their physical and utilitarian shackles.
