Successful Finnish photographer Riitta Päiväläinen depicts elegant dresses and clothing in such an eerie and yet beautiful way. Her series ‘Vestige’ is not fashion photography, as some might want to think. It’s Päiväläinen’s fascination of old clothing and the history that surrounds it, which has no written documents or stories to trace it’s existence.

I can feel its presence in various ways: as a rip in a coat; as a place worn thin in an armchair; as a light footprint on an inner sole of a shoe.’ The appreciation and the sensitivity she evokes with her images make the garments feel as if they are about to dust themselves off and simply walk away. They feel alive, as if a ghost has just inherited these wonderful pieces of fabric.
