Rebecca Adams

Words

Rebecca Adams’ paintings focus on black and white portraiture referencing stylized, graphic photography and film. Her latest body of work is a point of connection between two mediums, her beginnings in photography and the transition into painting.

They are a study in film noir; contrasted lighting, bold graphics, and dramatic characters. ‘They allow me to combine my instinct in photography, a direct connection from audience to portrait, and my heart in painting.’ They are moments caught on film, which bleed out into fields of pattern and shadow. The subjects become clothed in abstraction, which blurs the line between film and painting. While she has always been infatuated with photography, she has found herself much more passionate about the creation of work on canvas; watching the abstract form out of darkness into realistic portraits that draw an emotional response from the viewer. This body of work has created a point of entry for Rebecca Adams to explore two worlds.
