Surreal Optical Illusions By Sydney Sie

Words

In the series ‘The Nothingness of Amelie‘, Taiwanese photographer and graphic designer Sydney Sie creates surreal tableaus with bold pastel colors, simple objects and figures that never reveal their faces. She mixes digital and analogue elements in a way that are feminine yet eerie. Through soft color gradients, optical illusions and absurd arrangements, she composes a narrative that is both playful and partially autobiographical.

In a statement about her work, she says, “Amelie and her girl are playing together to create temporary three-dimensional spaces – kind of like lying on an extremely soft bed or in a cloud. At some point, all of them will dissolve into nothingness.”
