Berlin-based photographer Lukas Korschan focuses on editorial, fashion as well as street photography and one of his latest trips took him to Tokyo…
As editor of German mens fashion magazine ABOUT NOW, Korschan regularly travels to the Japanese capital where he meets up with friends and captures the city’s vibrant street life. Here are some images of a day spent in Tokyo…
6:40 AM – I wake up in Tokyo. Amazing light comes through the windows and floods the room while I watch my friend Jin struggle to put on his sweater. Great morning.
8:20 AM – After taking a morning stroll through the residential area of Yoga, I unexpectedly hop onto an uncrowded subway. (Jin managed to put on his sweater earlier, by the way.)
10:34 AM – One quick breakfast later, I meet lovely Joanna and Monique of Champ Magazine at the Mori Art Museum to check out the opening of Takashi Murakami’s first major solo exhibition in Japan in 15 years. Murakami’s work aside, the view from the 53rd floor of the Mori tower is pretty spectacular.
12:05 PM – I explore the Nakameguro area which is beautiful and pretty calm for being in the middle of the largest city in the world. On my way I discover some hidden beauties.
1:10 PM – I’m on the search for the perfect taxi driver to take me to Shibuya.
1:11 PM – I find the perfect taxi driver to take me to Shibuya.
1:56 PM – While waiting for Jin to meet me for lunch in Shibuya, I observe some locals enjoying their lunch break. Looks fun.
6:45 PM – I head to dinner with Kento, Jin and Tagaya-san. Lovely conversations and amazing food alongside proper Japanese beer. After Japanese beer, the conversations get better and better.
10:34 PM – Spotting even more hidden beauties on my way home to Yoga…
11:51 PM – Finally back home after almost 20 hours on the streets of Tokyo. I am bone-tired, and have some goodnight sake with Jin before calling it a day.
