A Wood Installation Made Of 10,000 Sticks By Ben Butler

Words

Artist Ben Butler created a wood installation that consists of thousand of small sticks for Rice Gallery in Houston, Texas. Titled ‘Unbounded‘, the site-specific sculpture was made using poplar wood, which the artist arranged into a complex structure. See the video below for the whole process. Speaking of the inspiration behind the project, Butler says: “The title of the installation ‘Unbounded’ alludes to the notion that its form has no defined boundary, that it is untamed and fills the space according to its own logic.” Butler graduated in sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and besides his sculptural work, he also focuses on drawings and prints.
