Dark, Subversive Photography By Daisuke Yokota

Japanese photographer Daisuke Yokota creates inky, ethereal images portraying landscapes and nudes. Shooting digitally, Yokota prints and retakes his initial shots using medium-format film. He then continues to print the results several times, distorting the images with heat and light. The photographer cites Aphex Twin as an inspiration, commenting “there’s a lot of experimentation with delay, reverb and echo, which is playing with the way you perceive time. Of course, there’s no time in a photograph, but I thought about how to apply this kind of effect, or filter, to photography.”
