For the ongoing series ‘On the Periphery’, photographer and filmmaker Sinziana Velicescu captures minimal images of Los Angeles, her hometown.
“To me, photography is a form of meditation that helps me cope with an otherwise extremely stressful lifestyle bound by deadlines and traffic.”The photographic series of the Californian metropolis, typically perceived as buzzing, depict a calm atmosphere in soft tones and colors. Twenty-six-year-old Velicescu graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Film and her photography work has already been exhibited throughout the States.
Speaking about the story behind her images in a recent interview, Velicescu says: “To me, photography is a form of meditation that helps me cope with an otherwise extremely stressful lifestyle bound by deadlines and traffic. I am also a strong believer in chance encounters and I see the city as a living specimen: some days are better than others, some streets are better than others.”
