Mexican artist and designer Edgar Orlaineta designed a wire shelving system in a take on the iconic modernist Ettore Sottass Carlton bookshelf.
Named ‘Totem After Ettore Sottass’, the design was conceived as an investigation into the ideals of modernism, as well as “the contradictory ideologies that are forced upon the work due to a certain legacy within a larger historical/cultural context.” A statement about the project explains, “Ultimately, Orlaineta tries to direct our attention to the transformative powers of the everyday and its relentless aspiration for a utopian way of life.”
