Dutch material design studio buroBELÉN and textile atelier Febrik collaborated to create the Laying Bag, a 3D-printed sleeping mattress that changes color over time.
The ‘Laying Bag’ was produced on Febrik’s cylindrical weaving machine, which is traditionally used for upholstery. The design was created as part of BELÉN’s ‘Living Colors’ interior series, an exploration of the influence of color on mood and wellbeing. Colored with natural dye, the bag was designed to transition from pink to pale yellow over time. Speaking of their philosophy, BELÉN cites the “intuitive, emotional and physical aspects of design” as central to their practice, “resulting in products and visions that show unexpected applications of material and colors, as well as revaluations of conventional techniques.”
