Visualizing The Invisible Motions Of Kung Fu

Scroll

Digital designer and media artist Tobias Gremmler visualized the dynamic motions of Kung Fu masters for an exhibition hosted by the International Guoshu Association in Hong Kong.

“Visualizing the invisible is always fascinating.”Gremmler, who is “deeply inspired by the dynamics of motion and philosophy of Kung Fu,” captured the motions of Master Wong Yiu Kau and Master Li Shek Lin, having used a digital scan to measure each master’s movements in terms of space, time and velocity. “Visualizing the invisible is always fascinating,” says Gremmler, “and motion visualizations have been created even in pre-digital times with light, photography, costumes or paintings.” Below is a selection of stills from the film, which is available to view here.
