A Liquid Marble Installation That Captures Perpetual Motion

Words

Renowned French designer Mathieu Lehanneur created a marble ‘Petite Loire’ installation outside the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire Centre D’Arts et de Nature. The installation – just one in the Liquid Marble series – will show during the arts center’s International Gardens Festival (May 5 to November 2 2016). Made from hand-polished green marble carved using 3D software, the piece explores how light and water interact with the marble surface, in reflection of the Loire river. “I hope that, when passing the Chateau gates, the visitor will experience something that comes close to a magic portal, to a forbidden place in so many fairytales,” says Lehanneur. “Everything is liquid in this space, evanescent, enlightened, and yet it is executed in a material that is the one of the most solid imaginable.”
