The Poetry Of Underwater Choreography

Known for her fine art underwater photography, Mallory Morrison captures poetic images of dancers in water.
“Sometimes I shoot my dreams.” Combining her longstanding passion for dance with the possibilities of photography, Morrison creates pastel-colored images with a dreamy atmosphere. The models, who are shot at about eight foot into the deep water, are arranged into choreographed compositions or entwined in graceful floating positions.
Based in Los Angeles, Morrison graduated in art before focusing on fine art photography. Speaking of the process behind her work, she recently told an interviewer: “My ideas come from all different places. Sometimes I shoot my dreams. I have always been a very vivid dreamer and it helps me process them by recreating them. I usually write my ideas down in a notebook and sometimes I sketch them out in little stick figures.”
