Hailing from Gironia, Catalonia, Jan Phoenix relocated to Barcelona for his studies in audiovisual design. This move would eventually lead him into photography, a medium which opened up the world to him.
“Since I was a kid, I have always been a daydreamer and I felt like I didn’t fit in most places until I discovered photography,” says Phoenix. “I like to use photography to express and capture those things I care about the most: love, friendship, nature. Each of these themes comes to light in this road trip series, set against the shifting landscapes of a territory close to his heart, the Catalan Pyrenees. His commentary below allows us to share the ride with him.
“Always dreaming of having the chance to travel to the French Alps, the Scottish Highlands, the deserts of Colorado or the landscapes of Canada. But while that is not possible right now I try to find places around my home as breathtaking as the ones I dream about.
Sometimes you don’t need to travel miles away to find a place where you can meet with nature and its purity — escaping from the dizziness of the routine in the city — and leaving all kind of comfort behind that lets you realize you only need good company and an adventure to feel complete and treasure the small things from life.
A land where nature invites us to enter and enjoy, placed in the middle of the Catalan Pirineus, Spain. Wondering through the forests and the open fields filled with emptiness — an eternal silence that lets you connect with your most inner self.
Feeling the warmth of the sun and the coldness of the mist. Cooking dinner while staring at the stars. Hearing wild horses walking next to our tent during the night. Priceless…We all have a primitive bond with mother nature, but it’s resting inside us waiting to be awaken. A gift.”
