Jamie Hawkesworth Captures Life In Transit

Over the course of four years, Jamie Hawkesworth captured the waiting faces of Preston Bus Station in Lancashire, England.
“I just waited for someone to catch my eye.”The English photographer, whose usual focus is fashion, was fascinated by the characters coming and going through the brutalist structure, which narrowly avoided demolition. Says Hawkesworth about his project, “I just waited for someone to catch my eye. When I photographed them though, I never really liked talking to them for that long, not because I’m not interested but it started to get a bit strange. Most of the time people just want to get on with what they’re doing rather than chatting to a weirdo who wants to take their picture.” Thirty-five of the images have been published in what is Hawkesworth’s first photo book.
