The Dutch artist Marc van Vliet created ‘Drie Streken’, a sun observatory located at the centre of ‘Zeven Stricken’: Seven illuminated points of the compass.
Visitors can approach the structure via a long boardwalk leading to a pavilion that changes form hourly according to the tide of the wadden sand flats. The project, explains van Vliet, “aims to travel along the wadden over the next four years. At each location, a connection will be sought between the sand flats, the sun, and the horizon with the illuminated points of the compass and the tide.”
