Installed last year, the ‘Sailing Tower‘ is a new harbour landmark gracing the Danish city of Aarhus. A dramatic urban sculpture, it offers the visitors a 360 degree overlook of the city and the harbour.
Designed by Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter, the 7.5 meters high sculpture is shaped like a sharp origami cut. The tower offers a magnificent view of the harbour and the bay, becoming a new vibrant meeting place. Made of a large cut-out structure, it also provides an interesting play of light and shadow when the sun shines through its surface. The structure was made of welded steel plates, produced in a shipyard and sailed to the site.
