‘Retreat in Finca Aguy’ is a 115-square meter prefab designed by MAPA and constructed in a factory near Montevideo before being transported to an olive grove near Pueblo Edén.
Consisting of two 12.5-meter long modules, the prefab was lowered onto two overlapping stone walls before being propped up by extra – concealed – structural elements. The symmetrical, timber-clad interior is entered around a large window opening out onto a balcony terrace, offering sweeping views of the breathtaking surrounding landscape. “Prefabrication allows us to work with industrialised materials that enable high-precision processes, thus reducing the impact of construction on the ground, minimising waste, staff in-situ and displacement,” explain the architects.
