The Flexhouse with its wide walls of glass and the ribbon-like facade was completed in March 2016 by Swiss architecture and design studio Evolution Design.
A 173 sq meter expanse provides enough space for an open plan living, dining and kitchen area on the ground floor, two bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor, two wide terraces on the second floor and a basement level with an underground garage. The exterior is what truly catches the eye, since the comprehensive design of the residence leads from wide to narrow, following the railway lines and the shape of the plot. The fluidity of the design continues in the interior which welcomes unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains and the lake while natural light fills almost the entire home.
The house has been designed for the everyday living, whereas practical and ecological elements are integrated into the design. Different features including thermally activated concrete floors submit to heat the house in the winter and cool it down in the summer. Besides, the glass facades are triple glazed and have external blinds to control the heat gain from the sun.
