Terézia Krnáčová is a textile artist from Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, who embroidered six slices of bread for her project titled “Everyday Bread”. The seventh slice, which is left plain, represents the Sabbath. She explains her concept as an expression of her personal relationship with textile: “I love textile art and I can‘t live a day without it”.
The composition of seven slices constitute the days in week. Six are embroidered with different textile techniques, and the seventh is left unembroidered to express Sunday as a traditional day of relaxation. The slices are showing Krnáčová’s embroidery handiwork, from simple cross stitches and netting to more detailed weavings and loops. Her project is a symbol of how food and art are the things that truly maintain her. Even the number of embroidered slices has a signification since she intentionally chose to display seven slices.
