Based in Turin, art and design collective Studio Nucleo investigate past and future time-frames and the spaces they present, often in the form of sculpture and design objects.
In the series of conceptual sculptures titled ‘Boolean’, Studio Nucleo design director Piergiorgio Robino works alongside Torino-born artist Edoardo U. Trave, to explore a contemporary intervention of figurative vintage sculptures. Studio Nucleo takes inspiration from computer-generated Boolean data, in which values are reduced to true or false. This binary logic is represented by the fusion of two strikingly opposing forms: the classical sculpture of an animal or human figure, and rectangular cuboids of polished bronze plates. By implementing Boolean’s computer-aided design functions of intersection and union, Studio Nucleo initiates a dialogue between the past and the future, creating a new space in history that is both yet to happen and already has.
