Seoul-based designer Sunyuul Yie has created a footwear label for the witty woman. Yuul Yie designs are sleek without being serious, featuring throwbacks to fashion faux pas in the most elegant way.
Noting modern art, architecture, and sculpture as influences for fashion is hardly revolutionary — but giving the same inspirational gravitas to a stone on the street, the Arabic alphabet or a piece of coral certainly is. Drawing from this eclectic pool of sources, Yie’s pieces are equally appealing as they are perplexing, marrying classic design elements with bulbous heels, buckles, and bows. Created with photographer David Gomez Maestre, in the Pre-Fall 2018 lookbook, Yie’s designs have become props in a light swathed ’80s photo shoot. The collection featured in the series seems to hark back to the same period that the lookbook seems to mock. This tongue in cheek reflection is typical of Yie and her work, you can find the latest collection for purchase online here, and in store at Dover Street Market.
