Ruminating on both the connect and disconnect we feel with nature, in ‘Come With Me’ the lens of Ellie Davies captures perfectly the magic of ancient British landscapes and the interventions she has created to place us there.
Davies has been working within forests for the past nine years; creating allegorical landscapes that offer insight into the way “our own cultural preoccupations and anxieties obscure the reality of the land, veiling it, and transforming the natural world into an idealization.” The surreal appearance of her altered landscapes brings to mind scenes from folklore and fairytale
—equally sinister and inviting. In ‘Come With Me’, her meandering paths are interventions with intent, designed the draw the viewer into the midst of the forest that captured within each frame—an attempt to reconnect us with nature. “These altered landscapes operate on a number of levels,” she explains. “They are a reflection of my personal relationship with the forest, a meditation on universal themes relating to the psyche and call into question the concept of landscapes a social and cultural construct.”All images © Ellie Davies
