Under the guidance of Oki Sato, Japanese design studio Nendo has designed the ‘Seesaw Collection’ a playful but elegant series of furniture for marble specialists, Marsotto Edizioni.
Found commonly in playgrounds, for most, the seesaw is an object of nostalgic delight. In Nendo’s collection, this everyday piece of play equipment informs the balanced compositions of two side tables and a dining table. The ‘Seesaw Collection’ plays upon the opposition between the heaviness of the marble forms and the lightness of the negative space where the table tops meet supporting legs with a tapered edge. As Nendo explain, “Although the table top and the base are securely fastened together, the solid, heavy top plate seems to almost float above its “pointed” base, achieved by tapering the top of the legs and the underside of the table, it gives the impression of weightlessness.” See more IGNANT articles featuring the innovative Japanese design studio Nendo, here.
