Spanish firm 05AM Arquitectura has completed an angular seaside house on a sloping hill in Tamariu—a coastal town in the northeast of Spain, close to the French border.
Tasked with creating a residence on a very steep plot of land, the architects designed the slanted home to be two storeys that are raised off the inclined ground. ‘House In Tamariu’ is positioned as south-facing, in order to maximize the near-constant sun exposure and “foster the best of outdoor life”. Residents enter the home via a spiraling metal staircase from the street on the north side, leading to bedrooms on the second storey. The ground floor features an open plan, multi-purpose space that opens out on to a paved terrace. Outside is a partially shaded outdoor space with a lawn for entertaining, which overlooks a large pool that allows residents to relax with unobstructed views of the ocean. “It is a house where both the exterior and the interior are designed to enjoy the Mediterranean climate”, explain the architects.
