In a unique exploration of play and sound, Design Academy Eindhoven graduated Tessa Spierings has created ‘Echo’; a speaker system designed to make “acoustics visible and tactile”.
“By approaching sound and acoustics in a playful way”, Spierings explains of her project, “the topic is addressed in another dimension.” Composed of speakers and tubes made from different materials and in different sizes, Spierings’ ‘Echo’ allows the user to create a multitude of aural experiences by combining the elements differently. “Placing a tube on a speaker gives the sound a certain character”, she continues. “By stacking and moving the tubes from one speaker to another, several sound layers can be created.” This gives the user the potential to interact physically with material and melody; almost as if ‘Echo’ is an instrument in and of itself.
