In 2014, art collectors Jörn Kuschinsky, a Berliner, and French-born Thomas Storai, opened a sophisticated gallery in a basement space in Berlin-Mitte. ‘Room Capacity’ showcases a curated selection of contemporary artworks, one-off furniture items, and interior objects.
In the years since, ‘Room Capacity’ has become something of an adored design addition to Mitte’s gallery strip. After moving next door for more space, the gallery’s showroom now exhibits a changing collection of items, from a range of eras in art and design. This includes a selection from mid-century modernism, to minimal, to eclectic. The duo work with young designers, emerging interior studios, and internationally renowned artists. “We’re collectors by nature”, explain the pair. “We share the passion for rare, curious and unique pieces of furniture and art”. As the pieces are for sale, the gallery holds no permanent collection—preferring to change with the art and design scene’s demands.
