Ukrainian designer Konstantin Kofta, director of Kofta Studio, has designed an unconventional collection of geometric handbags titled ‘ABC’. Their sculpted forms act as wearable art pieces that demonstrate the label’s atypical approach to fashion design.
The fall/winter 2019 collection features nine sculptural black bags that are lightweight and hand made entirely from leather or natural rubber. Categorized and titled according to their different shapes, included in the collection are a cylinder, cone, cube, curve, and cycloid, amongst others. The leather bags are made from horse leather on the outside and suede lamb leather on the inline, and the natural rubber variation is harvested in the form of latex from the rubber tree; a species of rubberwood that is native to the Amazon region of South America. “Our bags serve as a canvas for expressing our creative intentions through properties that they did not initially possess”, explains Kofta, “endowing [the bags] with the ability to bring aesthetic pleasure while maintaining functionality.”
