Chinese product design firm Mario Tsai Studio explores the potentials of materials and cutting-edge production methods in their latest furniture invention, the ‘Pull Table’.
The young design studio based in Hangzhou, China, stands out for its excellent use of materials and innovative design thinking. Mario Tsai Studio’s latest design creation, entitled ‘Pull Table’, is exemplary of the studio’s skills; it uses wood-based panels to accentuate the contrasting attributes of plywood—lightness and toughness—while retaining an undeniable minimalism and elegance in the silhouette. As the name suggests, ‘Pull Table’ plays with the idea of pulling, encouraging users to experience the bending crafts that are part of the table’s production process. Expressing the intersection of the toughness of the 5mm thin plywood, the hardness of the steel rod, and the flexibility of the leather belt, the design forms a stable structure in which each material subtly pulls against each other, exerting a controlled, almost unnoticeable, force on one another.
