American artist Phillip K. Smith III created a series of white geometrical sculptures that explore light and shadow in their purest forms.
“These works are about the subtlety of light across a surface” The works, which currently are on show at the Royale Projects space in downtown Los Angeles, are the gallery’s sole light source, and together create an ethereal ambience that invites reflection on notions of perception and perspective. Speaking of the intention behind his work, Smith III states, “These works are about the subtlety of light across a surface…about tracing the shift, the step, the gradient of light that is contained and revealed within these forms. They are about presenting light in its most reduced state.”
