Based in Detroit, designer and artist Nina Cho creates furniture and home accessories with a special twist, like her series of sculptural mirrors.
“I pursue ideas of lightness and reduction in my work.” Inspired by paintings, the ‘Constructivist Mirror’ series juxtaposes geometric forms and shapes with black, bronze and gold acrylic in wooden frames. Made of copper, brass and steel, the ‘Bent Mirror’ series reflects a sculptural approach and the pieces can be placed together to create an abstract landscape.
In a statement about her work, Cho says: “By eliminating unnecessary factors and highlighting a singular material, I aim to simplify not only a form but the fabrication process as well. I pursue ideas of lightness and reduction in my work. Colors, shape, and material must be essential to the piece and complete the work.” Cho studied woodworking and furniture design at one of the leading art schools in Korea, Hong-Ik University.
