With a practice rooted in environmental design, artist Huy Bui creates multiplied modular systems that, suspended in space, provoke questions about the ecology in our daily lives.
Inspired by an ancient Chinese divination text featuring hexagrams that represent yin and yang, ‘Geological Frame’ is a collection of wooden pieces encased inside the rectangle brass frames. The series includes 48 modular units in a wide range of scales and mediums that can be arranged or stack to form new variations. Bui, who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, is also the co-founder of Plant-In City, an ongoing collaboration that explores the relationship between architecture, technology and plants through terrarium-like installations.
