Located in Sanur, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bali, the DRA House stands against lush tropical sanctuaries, offering a true Balinese experience.
Designed for an Indonesian family by D-Associates, the residence offers an escape from busy life in Jakarta. The 897 sqm villa comprises of four bedrooms, each equipped with its own bathroom, living space and the kitchen, all centered around the swimming pool and the lawn. It also includes several references to the Balinese traditional architecture, like the foyer pavilion being inspired by the ‘aling-aling’ element in Bali’s dwelling compound. A piece of screen emphasizing the act of entering the house, it marks the limits of a house’s private space. However, the line between the private and the public is blurred, as the same finishing materials were used both for the indoor and the outdoor. Keeping the inside spaces open to the outside surroundings, the architects allowed the residents to experience the Balinese landscape in all its beauty.
