London-based photographer Hollie Fernando shot a series of nudes at harmony with nature in Botany Bay, Kent.
Created exclusively for iGNANT, the series – entitled ‘Katie & Kimbra’ – shows the women exploring the bay’s rocky setting under a cornflower blue sky. Conveying a feeling of serenity and unity with nature, the series provided Fernando with a new perspective on shooting nudes, as she explains below.
“I realised that before this series I had only taken nudes of people who want to censor some part of themselves. For these photographs, Katie and Kimbra ran about the rocks with a confidence and honesty that I hadn’t had the honor of shooting before. It’s so interesting to see this small contrast change the dynamic of the images’ mood.
Instead of documenting the thrill someone experiences when doing something completely out of their comfort zone by stripping for the camera, I was capturing the complete love and peace these girls have for themselves and how their characters became more at ease once rid of clothes. I love how this has shifted the main focus of the images to the fact that within them, everything is exactly as nature intended it to be.”
