Since the 1970s metal music became a prolific influence in Botswana’s music scene, over time the women of Botswana evolved a subculture of black metal called ‘The Queen Of Marok’.
South African photographer Paul Shiakallis took up an opportunity of being with the masculine, studded leather, and chains attired women for just over twelve months to document their passions and desires through photos. Although these mothers and wives have their casual life, their alter ego always has them dressed for war.
