The dreamy paintings of artist and illustrator Anna Roberts are full of light and pastel tones. Through her attention to color and playful handling of light and shadow, she creates atmospheres of sensibility and relaxation.
Roberts paints on cotton paper, using soft pastels and sponges to mix the colors. Inspired by a trip to Portugal, her pieces are full of daydream-like scenery. Roberts captures peaceful sentiments of wandering the backstreets of hilltop Spanish towns with a cool breeze, or sitting in a cafe in southern France, watching the world go by. Throughout the body of work, Roberts presents a viewer with a mixture of subjects, subtly related by common themes and colours. The artist explains, “I always find while visiting new places my senses are heightened. When travelling I can be completely present, making it easy to notice all those cool little moments I’d like to keep.”
