Scroll

MG design studio developed ‘Casa Ching’, a house that contains of two volumes that separates private and social area in Tres Ríos, Costa Rica. Whereas the building material of the communal sector is mainly concrete, the private sector is made of zink. Both parts of this 143-square-meter house are connected by a glazed walkway and a large open-air terrace.

The zink volume houses bedrooms, bathrooms and a space for the laundry while the concrete unit contains a living room, dining area and an open-plan kitchen. Additionally the social area has a studio and a photography darkroom. Concerning the atmosphere the architects particularly focused on the light conditions. White grid-like window frames cast linear patterns across the walls. Furthermore the building is equipped with overhanging structures like steel girders. The color palette that was used ranges from black to grey tones and whites.
