The work of London-based designer and maker Tessa Silva-Dawson revolves around process, material, and conceptual development: Her handblown glass collection KANPAI exemplifies this process-focused practice.
The KANPAI pieces are both object and instruments. Hand blown, their glass forms are bulbous interpretations of traditional drinking vessels, designed to explore the sound of ritual toasts. When used to ‘cheers’, the sound that the glasses make on connection is determined by their size and shape. In KANPAI, Silva-Dawson has designed forms that accentuate the ringing tones of toasting; behaving as musical sound objects and practical vessels for water or wine.
