The vivid work of Brooklyn-based photographer Ryan Jenq is informed by art, music, film, and nature, combining vibrant still life shots, editorials, and documentary photography.
Jenq works as a full-time photographer, and has been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal Magazine, and Harper’s Bazaar, among other prestigious publications. Whether photographing on the more commercial side of things, or spending time producing personal work, Jenq’s still life shots are seductive and ethereal—with light, texture, and color dripping from each frame. Carefully positioned to let light in through specific views, his compositions have a cinematic and tactile quality that goes beyond the oftentimes fetishized form of still life photography. Some shots are blurred, some are high resolution, and most are taken on analog film: with messy pomegranates, dried flowers, crumpled bed sheets, or the supple folds of skin, Jenq’s sensual imagery opens us to his world of pleasure, and presents a momentary visual escape from the mundane.
