Brooklyn-based artist Stephen Shaheen explores the porous borders between art, design and architecture. His Headlight series are hand-sculpted from a modeling pulp he creates using recycled paper, cotton and denim, along with electrical components.
+ Read MoreThe ideas originate in sketches, then Shaheen creates armatures based on human proportions, position the gestures and carefully model the bodies. The tiny bodies appear to be reaching, or struggling, to connect themselves to the power source. Shaheen states: ‘Rather than sculptural illuminations, I see these as illuminated sculptures, and each piece is unique. The underlying concept distilled from all of these is the notion of ‘connection.”
