City of Culture of Galicia

The architect Peter Eisenman built a ‘city of culture’ called ‘Cidade da Cultura de Galicia’ in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The building was created to be a national symbol of Galician history and culture. It consists of four structures that blend with each other and rise as an amorphous structure out of the landscape.
+ Read MoreIt seems like the building is wave-like rising and disappearing from the floor. The design is based on the street plan of the medieval pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela, overlayed by a Cartesian grid. It is built of six elements that are divided into three pairs. Small pathways between the buildings lead to a central square.
This project is part of the exhibition Culture:City, that is asking questions about the impact of art and culture on cities and their architecture. Visit Culture:City from 15th of March – 26th of May 2013 at Hanseatenweg 10, 10557 Berlin.
