Unreal Paintings By Juan Martínez

Juan Martínez’s paintings show characters, that stem from the 20s and 30s, in striking, unreal settings. His inspiration are old photographs taken around that time. He transforms the images digitally and manually until they inherit a somewhat surreal mood. When he begins to paint the actual artwork, they start to develop their own dynamic that evolves, transforms and determines his brushstrokes.
Juan Martínez is especially interested in how images can transform from photographs over manipulated images to his paintings and back into photographs before they hit the cycle again.
