Alexander James’ Underwater Photography

Words

Alexander James is a fine-art photographer who loves to shoot underwater. His latest work was shot in Russia where he lived in an old factory building, sleeping next to a tank filled with 200 tons of water, asking random people in town to become models for his drowning art.

“I create theses sculptural works as a way of remembering, a kind or tragic baroque memory; my process of creating these scenes underwater affords me the ability to interfere with the surface tensions of the water and manipulate light in a totally unique way creating a painterly palette of form and colour. This creation of a single documentary image is all that remains of that event ever having taken place.”
