Grand Prix Chair

In 1957 Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen developed the Grand Prix Chair for Fritz Hansen. That same year the chair was presented during the spring exhibition of danish arts and crafts at the museum of applied arts in Copenhagen. Originally entitled as ‘Model 3130’, the chair received its new name after it got awarded with the ‘Grand Prix’ at XI. Triennale di Milano 1957

Yesterday night the Han Kjøbenhavn x Fritz Hansen ‘Grand Prix’ exhibition took place in Berlin. The Copenhagen fashion brand and the Danish furniture company teamed up to pay homage to the Danish architect and chair designer Arne Jacobsen. Han Kjøbenhavn created a modern interpretation of the Grand Prix by remodeling the back from a steel tube and a robe net. The seat is available in oiled oak or walnut. The legs are made of black stained oak.

For this ‘Danish Dynamite collaboration’ iGNANT was asked to artistically interpret the Grand Prix chair. The result is a video clip entitled ‘Beauty of Shapes’ in which the creators, Lukas Korschan and Clemens Poloczek celebrate the esthetic fusion of the natural form of the chair and the human silhouette. The visual focus lies on the interaction of shapes, structures and the gentle contrast of whites.
