Fake Illusions By Annamaria Mikulik
With each upcoming decade, Earth faces more danger and destruction, while our socio-cultural environment becomes reshaped at an alarming pace, making us question the future of physical life on the planet and the resourcefulness of humanity. Claiming that “we are more and more surrounded by artificial products and experiences”, Slovak designer Annamaria Mikulik crafted a collection of contemporary jewellery contemplating the paradox of materialization of natural forms by synthetic materials. Inspired by nature, her jewellery is uncovering the world’s warning statistics about replacing true nature with fake illusions. Mikulik’s jewellery makes a standing point towards the loss of natural balance in today’s demographics and consumerist culture, arguing that society encourages us to slowly forget the real scent of plants or taste of unmodified food. “The media ingrains in our systems that we should like imitations of reality”, she explains.
